The E-Ray is the latest addition to the mid-engine Corvette lineup, bringing with it a host of improvements and upgrades. With the integration of an electric motor, this hybrid vehicle now boasts all-wheel drive capabilities, providing not only better stability, but also improved performance and efficiency. In addition, the addition of the electric motor also results in a higher price point for this cutting-edge vehicle.

ONE LIKE NONE

In celebration of the Corvette’s 70th anniversary, Chevrolet has debuted a new electrified model – the 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray. This vehicle marks a significant milestone in the nameplate’s history, as it is not only the first hybrid model, but also the first all-wheel-drive model ever produced.

Powered by a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine, the E-Ray boasts an impressive 655 horsepower and can reach 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, making it the quickest production ‘Vette to date. The engine sends 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via an eight-speed, dual-clutch transaxle, while a 160-horsepower electric motor provides additional power to the front axle.

The electric motor draws energy from a high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack located in the transmission tunnel between the seats, which used to be the location of the propshaft in previous models. With this addition of electrified power, the Chevy Corvette E-Ray offers an impressive balance of performance, efficiency, and sustainability, making it a true testament to the automaker’s innovative engineering.

PERFORMANCE

The E-Ray’s hybrid system is designed to be self-contained, eliminating the need for plugging in. With just 1.9-kilowatt-hours of capacity, the battery pack is slightly larger than that of a Prius, and it charges solely via regenerative braking during deceleration or coasting. The 12-volt battery, which supports the V8 engine, start-stop system, and accessory power, has also been upgraded to a lightweight lithium-ion unit.

With the electric all-wheel drive system, or eAWD, the E-Ray produces an impressive 655 horsepower and is capable of reaching 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, making it the quickest production Corvette ever produced, outpacing the standard Stingray by 0.4 seconds and the race-bred Z06 by 0.1 second. Additionally, the E-Ray can complete a quarter-mile run in just 10.5 seconds.

While the Z06 may still be the top choice for track use, the E-Ray offers several advantages on the road. Its electric all-wheel drive system provides improved stability and performance, and the combination of the V8 engine and electric motor results in a potent, efficient powertrain.

The new Chevy Corvette E-Ray has an electric all-wheel drive system that helps with traction and stability in slippery conditions. It also improves fuel efficiency. The E-Ray has two new modes: Stealth Mode and Charge Plus Mode. Stealth Mode uses only the front electric motor for quiet operation up to 45 mph, and then the V8 engine takes over. Charge Plus Mode maximizes the battery’s charge for consistent performance during track sessions.

PERFORMANCE PACKAGE

The new Chevy Corvette E-Ray is set to debut later this year and has some exciting updates, both inside and outside. On the exterior, it is 3.6 inches wider than the Stingray and has unique 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. The E-Ray also comes with standard Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires and has the option for upgraded Pilot Sport 4S summer tires. The interior features updated infotainment and digital instrument cluster screens that display the power and efficiency of the electric motor and V8 engine. The E-Ray also includes driver-assistance technology such as lane keep assist and automatic emergency braking. The starting price for the E-Ray is $104,295 for the coupe or $111,295 for the convertible, before destination charges.

CORVETTE COMMAND CENTER
